8 years of peeling potatoes, dicing onions, making sandwiches, perfecting our house made carrot fries; going from in person dining one week to “to go meals the very next week due to Covid; welcoming the stranger who becomes a friend and serving our neighbors every Thursday; partnering with Wake Forest and Atrium Medical to provide service opportunities for medical students; watching 2nd graders from Charlotte Country Day School serve a meal to a neighbor who is hungry; and sitting beside a complete stranger and breaking bread together.

Meeting a young mom and her daughter and helping them find their way to Roof Above. Welcoming volunteers who want to make a difference in our community. Giving hats, gloves and hand knitted scarves to those looking for a bit of warmth. Welcoming everyone through our doors and letting them know that they are loved and that we are here for them. Spending Thanksgiving here in Fellowship Hall with our neighbors and volunteers.

The past 8 years could not be possible without our amazing volunteers – who give of their time and talents to make the soup kitchen what it is today.

Thank you!! Susan L., Soup Kitchen Coordinator
