Though the word “trinity” is not found in the scriptures, the triune God is revealed in Jesus who calls himself the Son, addresses God as the Father, and promises the Holy Spirit. Paul’s words in 2 Corinthians also begin our liturgy in the triune name: “The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all,” and Jesus sends his disciples into the world to baptize “in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.” The Trinity expresses the heart of our faith: God in three persons, yet one in unity – always sharing this divine unity with all humanity, sending us into the world to bear witness to God’s love.
