Today, we encounter the paradox that defines our faith: Jesus Christ the glorified king and humiliated servant. We too are full of paradox: we desire to follow Christ, but find ourselves often afraid, even denying Jesus. We wave palms in celebration as Christ comes to lead the world in humble service, yet we hesitate to follow him to his cross. In the Eucharist, Jesus gives us his body broken and makes a new covenant in his blood, forgiving our sins. We begin this holy week, the center of the church year, anticipating the completion of God’s astounding work in Jesus Christ.
