Today, we encounter the paradox that defines our faith: Jesus Christ is the Servant King. The crowds who welcomed him shouting, “Hosanna!” also exemplify the paradox of our humanity: they turned on him, shouting, “Crucify him!” We desire to follow Christ, yet turn away from bearing his cross for others. Paul invites us writing, “Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus.” Jesus shows us a life of self-emptying humility and obedience. This is the way of the cross and resurrection, the way of self-emptying love.
