Consideration of and care for those in need, especially those “at our gate,” those who are visible to us, and those about whom we are aware, is an essential component of Christian discipleship. As followers of Christ, we share our wealth in order that we avoid the snare of wealth. We are to do good, to be rich in good works, generous and ready to share. In this way, we take hold of the life that really is life.
