Jesus protests against abandoning the law and holding to human traditions, saying that true uncleanness comes not from external things, but from the intentions of the human heart. James writes that God gives us birth by the word of truth, Jesus Christ; therefore, we are to be not simply hearers of the word, but doers of the word which has been implanted in us with the power to save us.
