God is loving and faithful, reckoning Abraham’s faith as righteousness. We are encouraged to see ourselves in the stars of heaven, for our citizenship is indeed in heaven. As humanity continues to struggle with participating in and belonging to the nations of this world, today’s readings encourage us to see our common humanity as sisters and brothers as something given, not by temporal loyalties, but through God’s profound promise that all people are blessed and made righteous through the faith and love God has given to them in Jesus Christ.
