In today’s readings, the prophet Ezekiel prophesies of God breathing new life into dry bones, and Jesus reveals his power over death by raising Lazarus from the dead. To those in exile, displaced by war, and living in the shadows of death, these stories proclaim God’s promise of resurrection. As Paul writes in Romans, “To set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.” Today’s readings help us prepare for the journey of Holy Week to the cross and to anticipate the joy of the resurrection at Easter.
