At Christ’s last meal with his disciples, he gave himself as the holy mystery, the sacrament of Holy Communion. Christ also gave his disciples a new commandment, “to love one another.” As a sign of this commandment, Jesus washed his disciples’ feet showing them what a life of humble service to God looks like. On Maundy Thursday we remember that Christ offers us, in bread and wine, the grace of his body and blood, transforming us into his body, the church, in service to all the world.
