Within the gospel reading’s profound words lies the simple message that God is revealed in a human person. John writes, “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.” In Jesus, the human and the divine come together. In Jesus, the human body and spirit are made complete; reason and faith complement and complete one another. As Paul reminded the Ephesians, “in him you also obtained an inheritance,” so too we, along with all nations and peoples, are made children of God and members of the family of God.
