In various seasons, we find ourselves disoriented in life. The Psalms remind us of the Lord’s restoration for us. We see these promises echoed through the Gospel text as Jesus stretches out his hand to save the disciples when they are far offshore and against the wind. We are assured of God’s saving grace through the faithful tradition of our hymnody. We seek God’s peace like the writer Albert Tindley, who in his hymn “When the Storms of Life are Raging, Stand by Me” writes, “When the world is tossing me like a ship upon the sea, Thou who rules the wind and water, stand by me.”
