Simon Peter by faith declares that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of the Living God. Jesus responds by giving him a new name, with a new purpose. We like Peter experience disorientation and are also renewed by the Spirit of God, who calls us to a new orientation, a new identity. We rejoice with praise and thanksgiving in the light of God’s love and faithfulness to us, with our whole hearts.
