Twenty St. Mark’s Youth and six adult leaders embarked on a mission trip to Nashville, TN on July 16-22, 2017! We had a wonderful time serving God and neighbor by day, engaging in worship and prayer each morning and evening, and enjoying a great times of group building throughout the week. All of our leaders were so proud of the way our youth handled themselves and jumped into their volunteer activities, and everyone in our congregation should be too!
On Monday-Thursday, we were intermixed with other youth groups from Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Virginia to go out into the community to serve. Here is a list of activities our youth engaged in:
-Serving at a couple of different kids’ camps for low-income children
-Helping to lead a free basketball camp for underprivileged kids
-Tutoring children in reading
-Serving at a Habitat for Humanity Re:Store
-Donating and putting together backpacks and supplies for elementary students in need
-Conversing and helping residents at an assisted living home
On Tuesday night, and all of Friday, the youth had the opportunity to experience a little bit of what Nashville has to offer. During those times we walked around and ate on Broadway Street, we went to an escape room, we visited the Parthenon at Centennial Park, and we visited a water park just outside of the city. All of these fun activities allowed our youth to continue building friendships with one another.
As you can no doubt tell, our youth had a wonderful time serving others, worshiping God, and having fun in Music City. Thank you to all of the members who donated money so that our youth and adult leaders could have this experience! Our youth are blessed to belong to a church which supports them. A very special thanks goes to my co-leaders on this trip: Brandi Dotson, Beverly Timm, Richard Chapman, Matthew Chapman, and Clayton Wall. I couldn’t have made this trip happen without all of you.
