St. Mark’s Youth remain an active part of the St. Mark’s congregation. In addition to serving in worship as crucifers, acolytes, prayer assistants, lectors, and ushers, they have engaged in lots of group activities. Read on for a list of highlights from the fall semester.
God’s Work Our Hands
On September 9, the youth and children joined with lots of others in the congregation for service activities as part of the ELCA’s “God’s Work, Our Hands” Sunday. We made 200+ sandwiches for the Urban Ministry Center, wrote cards to homebound members of the congregation, and made plans for the upcoming Room in the Inn season.
On October 7, our youth led the congregation in worship during the 10:30 service. They led the liturgy, the music, and one of our youth preached a great sermon. Our Cherub Choir also performed!
On November 4 our youth held a BBQ fundraiser. We served over 100 plates and raised money for our 2019 summer mission trip. We will be going to Morehead City, NC to help with recovery efforts following Hurricane Florence.
Youth traveled to Casar, NC in November for a fun weekend of worship, play, fellowship, and studying and practicing prayer. This annual tradition, held at Camp Tekoa Foothills is one of the highlights of our year!
Advent Wreath Celebration
On December 2, youth and children participated in an congregation-wide Advent Wreath Celebration. Participants made Advent wreaths to take home, crafts were available, and the children were treated to a story about the Holy Family. Fun was had by all!
Room in the Inn
On December 18, youth and parents gathered to serve at Room in the Inn. We served 10 homeless neighbors who stayed at St. Mark’s by setting up beds, serving dinner, and dining with them. We are grateful to have a chance to serve in this wonderful ministry.
Youth Christmas Party
On December 21 current St. Mark’s youth and alumni gathered at the home of our Director of Youth Ministry, Alex, and his wife Erin’s house. We played games, ate good food, and enjoyed fellowship. We hope to make this an annual tradition moving forward!
Christmas Eve Nativity
Following the 5:30 Family Christmas Eve Service, seven of our youth participated in a live Nativity. We also served refreshments between the services.
Our youth program had a fun and meaningful Fall, and we look forward to a great Spring as well!
