We held a Confirmation Mentor Day on Sunday, October 26. Our mentors met with our confirmands for lunch, a couple of games, and a discussion on Matthew 6. Our mentors do a great job of connecting with our kids, and the mentor program is part of our vision for intergenerational ministry.
On Sunday, November 9, the youth of St. Mark’s held a BBQ fundraiser. The congregation showed up in great numbers to enjoy BBQ ribs, pork tenderloins, and chicken tenders. All proceeds will go towards our Puerto Rico mission trip in June 2015. Thanks to everyone who helped prepare the meal, especially Eric Timm who put in lots of hours and energy into this event. Thanks to the congregation for your generous donations! We had a great time preparing and serving the meal.
Our High School Youth went on a retreat to Camp Loy White in Casar, NC on November 14-16, 2014. The focus for this retreat was prayer, and we learned about and practiced praying throughout the weekend. We also dined together, worshiped together, played lots of sports and games, and held a bonfire. This was a great weekend to grow closer together and closer to the Lord. A very special thanks to Charlotte Dixon, Chris Stevenson, and Bill Usinger for chaperoning for the weekend, and to Gennie Stevenson for shopping for our meals.
On Saturday, November 22, youth and parents from St. Mark’s joined hundreds of other on near McDowell Creek in Huntersville to plant 1750 trees. We did this to help rebuild the tree canopy in Mecklenburg County. This was a great way to celebrate God’s good creation, and we had a good time working together to boot. Thanks to Charlotte Dixon, Dawn Schwartz, Rich Kelly, and Melissa Parrish for helping out!
