What have the youth of St. Mark’s been up to? Read on to find out!
On January 24, our youth joined with dozens of others at Second Harvest Food Bank to volunteer for the morning. We sorted through crates of household products so that their contents could get into the hands of people in need. A special thanks to Melissa Parrish, Marty Schwartz, and Ron Wenzel for helping out!
On February 1, our youth sponsored the Souper Bowl of Caring. Parents of youth and other congregation members prepared soups to share for lunch. We took donations at the door and raised $520 which we sent to the Urban Ministry Center! We also collected food items for Loaves & Fishes.
On February 15, we had a Youth Fellowship Day. Youth gathered for lunch (thanks to the Usingers!) and games in the Youth Room. We had a great time playing board games, ping pong, pool, foosball, and air hockey!
On February 20-22, we held a Confirmation Retreat at St. Mark’s. With worries about the weather and icy roads, we stayed home instead of going to Camp Loy White, and we had a great weekend of learning, worship, friendship building, and fun. One of our activities was to review everything the youth have been learning in Confirmation Class this year, and I was totally impressed by how much they know and understand! A very special thanks to Beth Kelly and Dave Dunlap for chaperoning the weekend with Pastor Peter and Alex, and thanks to Susan Ginns and Betsy Wenzel for shopping for our meals.
In addition to all of these great activities, our youth have continued to serve in worship as acolytes, crucifers, lectors, prayer assistants, communion assistants, and ushers, and they have continued to explore their faith in Confirmation Class and High School Sunday School.
