On Wednesday, August 9, the St. Mark’s Seniors sponsored a congregation-wide “Stop Hunger Now” meal packing event with Rise Against Hunger. Eighty-four St. Mark’s members and community members joined to pack over 10,000 meals in about an hour and a half! Rise Against Hunger will send these boxes of food to partners in various developing countries, who will use the meals “as a tool to change lives by promoting education, improving students’ health and nutrition, addressing gender inequalities, stimulating economic growth and fighting child labor.”
We had a wonderful time listening to music and chatting with fellow volunteers as we packed these meals. Afterwards, we enjoyed a meal together afterwards, some of which was made from the same packets of food we sent out. We are grateful to God for calling us into this work of combating hunger in our world.
A special thanks to Tom and Judy Tolbert for spearheading this event! We look forward to another Stop Hunger Now event next summer.
